An end-of-life notice means that the company is no longer renewing PCI certification, the industry standard for credit card security. It also means Verifone stopped issuing software updates after April 2020.
You may keep using your Verifone Vx520 until it is no longer operable or until April 30, 2023 at the latest.
Businesses that keep using their Verifone Vx520 after April 30, 2020 may be considered non-PCI compliant, and therefore may incur PCI compliance fees as laid out in their merchant agreement.
Verifone stopped issuing security patches in April 2020. This means businesses still using the Verifone Vx520 are more vulnerable to attacks by hackers, especially considering how widely used the terminal and its software are.
