If you process card payments with Global Payments, Heartland, Worldpay, EVO or TSYS, your costs are going up. Global Payments, which also owns Heartland, EVO, TSYS and Worldpay, is adding two new fees this fall: a $755 yearly charge and a new fee every time you close out your day’s card sales.

There’s good news buried in Global’s own notice to merchants. Because Global is raising your costs, its own terms let you cancel your agreement without a penalty, but only for a limited time. Here’s what’s changing in Global Payments charges, what it costs, and what you can do about it.
What’s changing
Global Payments owns Heartland, EVO and TSYS merchant services, and since January 2026, it owns Worldpay too. This fall, it’s adding two new fees for its merchants:
- A $755 “Annual System Enhancement Fee,” appearing on October 2026 statements.
- A new 35¢ batch settlement fee, charged every time you close out the day’s card sales, starting November 1, 2026.
You don’t get any new features or service for these fees. They’re simply new charges.
A batch is the group of card sales your terminal or POS sends in for payment when you close out. The new fee applies each time a batch is closed.
Not sure which brand you’re with?
Check the name on your statement. Heartland, Worldpay, EVO, TSYS and Global Payments all trace back to the same parent. Look for the Annual System Enhancement Fee on your October statement, and for the batch fee from November. If you signed years ago, reread your agreement, because older contracts can carry different terms, equipment leases, and notice requirements.
What the new Global Payments fees cost you
For a business that closes out once a day, the new fees add up to about $880 a year.

| Fee | How it’s charged | Yearly cost |
| Annual System Enhancement Fee | Once a year | $755 |
| Batch settlement fee | 35¢ per daily close-out | about $128 |
| Total | about $880 |
If you close out fewer days a week, the batch fee is a little lower. Five days a week works out to about $91 a year. Either way, it’s money leaving your business for the same service you had before.
If you close out more than once a day, or run multiple terminals that close their own batches, the batch fee multiplies. Here’s how it adds up:

Figure: the $755 annual fee plus the 35¢ batch fee, by number of close-outs per day.
35¢ × close-outs per day × days per year = your yearly batch fee
What it does to your effective rate
Say you take $45,000 a month in card sales and close out once a day. The two fees add about $74 a month ($882.75 ÷ 12), or roughly 0.16% of your sales. If you were paying an effective rate of 3.0%, you’re now closer to 3.16%. Your numbers will differ, but the math is the same.
Now say you take $100,000 a month and close out three times a day. The fees add about $95 a month ($1,138.25 ÷ 12), or roughly 0.09% of your sales. It’s a smaller share of a bigger number, but it’s the same dollars leaving your business, and it grows with every extra close-out.
Your 90-day window to leave without a penalty
Here’s the part most business owners miss. Global’s own notice says merchants who object to the new fees may “terminate your agreement without penalty” by giving written notice in line with their agreement.
In plain terms, you can cancel with no early termination fee, as long as you give written notice within 90 days of the invoice that shows the $755 charge. For most merchants, that window closes between late January and early February 2027, depending on the invoice date.
Once the window for the annual fee closes, your contract’s normal terms apply again for that fee.

How to find the new fees on your statement
- Find the annual fee. Look for a line labeled “Annual System Enhancement Fee” on your October 2026 statement.
- Look for the batch fee. It starts November 1, 2026, so check invoices that include activity from that date forward. Count how many times you close out each month.
- Calculate your effective rate. Use the formula below.
- Compare three months side by side. New fees are much easier to spot over time than in a single statement.
Total processing fees ÷ Total card sales = Effective rate
For example, $1,350 in fees on $45,000 in card sales means an effective rate of 3.0%.
What to do now
- Know your deadline. Your 90 days start from the date of the invoice that shows the $755 fee, so the sooner you act, the more options you have.
- Compare before you decide. Find out what you’d pay with another provider, including every monthly and yearly fee, not just the rate.
- Check how to give notice. Your merchant agreement explains how written notice has to be sent. Follow it exactly so your penalty-free cancellation counts.
- Check your equipment. Terminal leases or rentals can have their own terms, separate from your processing agreement. Ask what it would cost to get out of them.
- Line up your new setup first. Make sure your new processor is ready to go before you cancel, so you never miss a sale.
Is it time for a statement review?
✅ It may be time if you:
- Process with Global Payments, Heartland, Worldpay, EVO or TSYS
- Close out daily
- Pay for equipment through a lease or monthly rental
- Haven’t had your statement reviewed line by line in the past 12 months

Most processors only offer better rates when you’re ready to leave. With Rate Sekurity Guarantee®, we proactively review your account and adjust your rates when savings are available.
My business switched to Sekure over a year ago. Recently I received an email that my account had been reviewed, and my rates adjusted to save me over $650 a month. This was done without me asking, I’ve never had that from a processor before. Typically, you have to shop processors before you start receiving discount offers. This is why I’m recommending Sekure.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Global Payments charge merchants?
There isn’t one rate. Global Payments charges depend on your agreement and pricing model, and usually combine interchange and network fees passed through from the card brands, the processor’s markup, and account fees such as statement, annual, batch, or PCI fees. Merchants are now also seeing a $755 Annual System Enhancement Fee and a 35¢ batch settlement fee. Check your own statement for the amounts that apply to you.
Are Global Payments fees going up?
Yes. Global Payments is adding a $755 Annual System Enhancement Fee, appearing on October 2026 statements, and a 35¢ batch settlement fee, charged every time you close out your day’s card sales, starting November 1, 2026.
Are Heartland, Worldpay, EVO and TSYS fees going up too?
Yes. Global Payments owns Heartland, EVO, TSYS and Worldpay, and the same two fees apply to its merchants: a $755 Annual System Enhancement Fee on October 2026 statements, and a 35¢ batch fee starting November 1. Check your statements for both, and read your agreement for any brand-specific terms.
What is the Global Payments Annual System Enhancement Fee?
It’s a $755 yearly charge that appears on the merchant statement as “Annual System Enhancement Fee.” Merchants who object may cancel without a penalty if they give written notice, in line with their agreement, within 90 days of the invoice that shows it.
What is a batch settlement fee?
It’s a fee charged each time you close a batch of card sales for settlement. At 35¢ per close-out, a business that closes out once a day pays about $128 a year. Closing out more often, or running more than one terminal that closes its own batch, multiplies that.
Can I cancel Global Payments without a penalty because of the new fees?
Global’s own notice says merchants who object may terminate without penalty by giving written notice, in line with their agreement: within 90 days of the invoice that shows the annual fee. Your agreement controls how notice must be sent and any equipment lease terms, so read it carefully or ask your advisor before acting.
How do I calculate my effective rate?
Divide your total processing fees for the month by your total card sales for the month. For example, $1,350 in fees on $45,000 in sales is a 3.0% effective rate.
What’s the best way for a business to lower or avoid payment processing fees?
Start by knowing what you pay: calculate your effective rate and review your statements line by line for added fees. From there, you can lower your fees or even eliminate them with Edge Plus, Sekure’s zero fee processing program. With Edge Plus, customers see two prices, one for cash and one for credit, and they choose how to pay. You also earn monthly cashback payouts based on your processing volume. Clear signage is required at the point of sale and on receipts, and a Payment Expert can show you how it would work for your business.
